Don't worry about matching.
Given the wild riot of flavors and textures on the Thanksgiving table, it’s wiser to forgo precise pairings in favor of supple, easy-drinking bottles (color doesn’t matter) that play well with a wide range of foods.
Select wines that can go the distance.
Choose wines that can both please and refresh the palate over the course of many courses. Rich, potent potables can, literally, knock out your guests before they reach the pumpkin pie. Look for young wines with good acidity, bright fruit, and alcohol levels below 14%. Pro tip: slightly chill your reds.
Pick pours that aren’t too complex (or spendy).
At this most boisterous of holiday meals, the real stars are the food, friends and family you’re serving. Best to save your precious and pricey bottles for a more intimate gathering and stick to offerings under $25 you can buy in quantity.
Don’t run out!
No matter what wines you serve, keep them flowing. When stocking up, a good rule of thumb for a leisurely meal is at least a half bottle per person.
